  1. UHG all the authoring programs I have tried on my windows xp home machine have all froze during importing/burning/making the menus! The only one that has actually burned a dvd for me was Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2 but the audio sync is horrible! Up to 5 seconds off from the video on every file! Do I need a different OS? I have returned like 10 different programs! Please help!!!!

Make sure the HDD you are using is in the NTFS file system. If you bought this computer with XP HOME on it then I would think the HDD was already formated with NTFS but who knows? And if you upgraded from another OS such as WinME or Win98 then you definately need to double check.

If that ain't the problem then the only thing I can think of is to back up any files you need and RE-FORMAT the HDD and install WinXP HOME "clean".

It sounds like your system is all messed up!

I have a similar setup to yourself but need further details, i could just be you have too much running during the author.
With MF2 are your files MPEG complient?, there are issues with using the MF2 encoder, let us have more details please.

If you have tried several authoring programs and they all crash then you either have some serious user issues in the way you are doing things or your computer is somehow "mucked" up.

Did you try checking the NTFS file system thing?

Are you sure you have enough free HDD space that you have a decent enough WinXP cache going? I would never let my HDD get much below 3GB otherwise the cache file gets affected (too small) and you start to have problems.

If you can't work it out then you will need to re-format the HDD and install a nice new clean FRESH version of WinXP

Sounds like a pain-in-the-ass but people do it all the time when they have video problems. In can and often works.

As for ULEAD MF2 not working (giving synch issues) this is a somewhat common problem with that program when you use another program (like CCE or TMPGEnc) to encode your MPEG-1/MPEG-2 files. The truth is MF2 is very picky about how the files are created. You could try using the built-in MPEG-1/MPEG-2 decoder. Not as many options as using other programs (like the aforementioned CCE or TMPGEnc) but at least if you let MF2 do the encoding it SHOULD solve any issues you are having, such as audio synch problems.
