    I want to edit video using .avi. I also have a CD with .mpg material. Is it possible to reconvert back to avi, or is there software for editing .mpg.

    TMPGEnc. I like selecting the AVI file as input, selecting the DVD template, then selecting File-->Output to file...-->AVI. The I select my AVI codec, name the output file, then OK -- Voilą!
