Hello to you all I am a newbie to this so could someone give me a little help?
1st problem I have 1 avi file around 650megs and I would like to convert it to mpg so I can play it on my DVD player. Is there any freeware out there that will do this. This will be a 1 off so I don’t want to spend much cash.
The other bit of advice is I have a lot of videos that I would like to put them on to DVDs. I have a Phillips dvd80 stand alone under my Television and would like to know which connection is best between the video and the DVD player to get the best quality and sound. Thanks for reading my post.

Actually, the people here will give you a lot of help. But, you have to meet them halfway, so to speak. First, read the Newbie articles to make sure your questions are not already answered by them. Second, fill out you computer details, so the first reply to your posts is not asking what are your system specs. And thirdly, you should provide as much information as possible to make sure the gurus here have what they need to answer your questions.
Case in point, can your DVD player play CD-Rs? Do you own a CD-R or a DVD±R or both? Do you want to make VCDs, SVCDs, or DVDs, or all three? And of course, read the articles by using the button in the upper left corner to get you started on which disk you are trying to make.
But I will give a little advice: If you are going to be making VCDs or SVCDs, buy a few CD-RWs. If you will be making DVDs, by a few DVD±RWs (depending on your DVD burner configuration). This is because newbies tend make a few mistakes making their first disks, and rewriteable disks can be reused keeping your costs down.
Looking forward to hearing from you soon, and welcome to DVDRHelp!
P.S. Watch out for Tgpo, I do not trust that kid!Hello. -
Thanks for the replies. I havent given the spec of my PC because my DVD recorder is a stand alone. It is a Phillips dvdr80 which is connected to my TV and VIDEO. The format is dvd-r dvd- rw. My avi file i want to write it to a normal cdr in mpeg or vcd if possible. Thanks
