ummmm... right click and rename the .dat to .mpg works most of the time without the wait for vcdgear to run.

kre8tor,
Renaming is a bad idea -- it has been discussed many times why...
As for the time it takes for VCDGear to run, it takes no longer than COPYING the DAT file to the HDD if you use it directly on the DAT file on the VCD.
thebach, I can think of three other ways:
1. Use TMPGEnc MPEG Tools and load the dat file with the the simple multiplexor. Set the output file on the HDD. Remember to use the setting "MPEG-1 Video-CD".
2. Extract the VCD as a CUE/BIN image, then use VCDXRIP (part of the VCDImager) on the bin file.
3. Extract the VCD as a CUE/BIN image, then use VCDGear on the bin file. This should always work even if the filesystem on the VCD is broken (load the bin file as raw).
Regards.

i use isobuster to extract bin/cue files to mpg when vcdgear cant work, or there's no cue sheet, though one can easily be made.
