I have been using Adobe Premiere to convert my avi. files to mpeg/vcd. It converts, but then there is no sound even when I select AUDIO AND VIDEO.
ANY WAY TO SOLVE THIS!!!!!!!!

What do you mean? I wrote that I use Adobe Premiere MEDIASTUDIO 6.0 (if that's what you mean). Could it be that I selected JOINT STEREO instead of STEREO? Is there a difference?

I think he means what 3rd party plugin are you using to encode avi to mpeg...like panasonic, or lsx...something along those lines...I have adobe 6...yet for some odd reason...I always find myself going to tmpgenc12a to encode mpegs

videoz was correct to ask the question he did. You should not have dissmissed it so quickly. Adobe Premiere 6 is an excellent AVI editor, but it does not, alone, produce VCD compliant mpegs of sufficient quality, if at all.
I would humbly suggest you use Premiere as your Editor but export to MPEG using the AVISYNTH export method to TEMPENC to achieve your aims.
Selecting export AUDIO and VIDEO should work - test it using a small sample and export to AVI. i never use Adobe Premiere as a tool to create MPEG using its tools, I use 3rd party tools so I cannot state what the Premiere tools do. I always use it to crerate AVI then seperately encode or Frameserve using AVISYNTH. -
I am new to these things. COuld you make it a little bit clearer for me like what do you mean by export, 3rd party... Those kind of words are too hard for me cause I'm new to this.
SORRY FOR THE TROUBLE!!!!! -
Fair enough biney59. Sorry about that.
3rd party means another piece of software to the main program. For example - I use Adobe Premiere to capture and edit my captured movies. Add transitions, titles, and cut out unwanted portions.
Once happy with the Masterpiece ( I wish) in my timeline in Premiere, I can make a movie. The Timeline is the areas which you place your captures in Premiere. That is your movie.
The option to use to make the movie is EXPORT. In Premieres case the description is EXPORT TIMELINE. Export in this case is just a way of saying "make" or it could be assumed that the user may wish to SEND (EXPORT) to another program to produce the end movie. That program might be described as a 3rd party item.
When selecting this option - EXPORT TIMELINE - a box will appear allowing you to "save as" but there are also settings that you can change. One of those will be the option to export Video and Audio. These should be ticked if it applies. You may not want audio in some cases. If you do not, then this should be left unchecked. This will save disk space. If you tick this option without having audio in your movie then it will create an audio track of total silence increasing your file size. If however you are making VCD, it MUST have audio, even if it is silent.
My - I hope you can follow this rambling.
It would be at this point, the settings box, thatyou can choose your format for saving. Your options here are knid of numerous, depending on what you want to make.
Some encoders, XING and Panasonic have little files that are installed into Premiere which allow you to use those programs to EXPORT to. If these are selected, then the EXPORTED to program will open up and let you encode to VCD MPEG. The best one to use however is the AVISYNTH method. Now that is really hard to get right - at first, but really simple once you have done it.
Tutorials on the the left or some useful bits on my site http://www.coyote01.freeserve.co.uk
Hope it helps - tried to keep it easy to follow. Terminology is crap when your setting out - sorry.
