  1. I just upgraded my old AMD Athlon 900 MHz to a new P4 2,4 GHz with a 333 MHz memorybus. Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't I expect an increase in encoding speed for i.e. MPEG-2?

    I'll second that....

  4. CPU power and encode time is almost a direct inverse linear relationship.

it looks like your new comp should decrease encode time by more than half.

    ----------

things to keep in mind...did you change any encode settings? filters add extra time, especially "adaptive de-interlace filters"....and motion search accuracy can add lots of time...especially if you choose "highest quality (slowest)".

    ---------

also, clockspeed (Hz) means differently between AMD Athlons and Intel Pentiums...at least with the earlier ones....before Intel had 600+ Mhz FSB.

if an Athlon and Pentium were to have an exact clockspeed, Athlon will blow the Pentium away. hence, an Athlon can achieve similar CPU power with a lower clockspeed than Pentium. Again, may not be the case with current Pentiums, as new Pentiums can have that 600+ MHz FSB and other enhancements.

    ----------

even so, jumping from 900 Mhz to 2.4 Ghz should be a big improvement on encode time.

  5. No problems, just curious as I haven't tried any encoding yet. I just bought it and was surfing on my laptop as I was re-installing windows.
