  1. Have they changed the formula of these? I got my first pack about 2 months ago and every disc worked a treat. I bought more and have used about 30 discs since then but most have become coasters. The movies usually stutter about 3/4 of the way through and then freeze totally.

I notice Blankdiscshop say they are no longer stocking them. Since I dont want to think that its my writer on the way out (after 2 months) can anyone confirm any problems with packs bought recently?

I tried many brands. I had the same results as you. You get some good spindles and you get some bad. I the problems always arise at the end of the disks (over 4 gigs or so). I switched to Ritek and haven’t had a problem in over 200 burns. I'd say that is damn reliable!!!

datasafe red top media are made by princo check out the media section of this site for comments about princo media...... you will see that the common opinion is that princo media is crap.

NOTE: also checkout bulkpaq media these are also princo and are also rated in the crap catagory

cancel those bulkpaq orange they are absolute crap if you want good 4x media then stick to quality brand names like tdk, however ritek make some good media and maybe its worth you trying them however i have not been able to burn ritek at 4x in my sony dru5ooa although others say they have if you have a pioneer ao5/105 i dont think there is a problem with burn speed. I have had great success with mirror media platinum 4x disk (an30/an31 media codes) burning at 4x is no problem for me however a friend of mine has a pioneer a05 and can only burn them at 2x (an31 media code, he has not tried ones with an30 media code)

my advice is buy a few disks of different brands try them and see which work best for your writer but stay clear of princo, use dvd decrypter in iso write mode to get media id info or download a copy of "advdinfo" and look in the "prerecorded info in lead in" to get media id info

  9. Blank disc shop have been advertising unbranded Ritek 4x for 99p each. I have tried many different media and know of many people who are having Red Datawrites and Tango Bulk paqs coming back left right and center. Not only that.. their backup copies on the red and tago's are c*cking up.

I have used nothing but Ritek for the last few months and have not had a single coaster and no returns. I rip with Shrink, image with img tool classic and always write with clone DVD. the only downside with clone is you cant do them on the fly. but it writes the disc in such a way that it will play on both old & new players whether they support UDF 1.02 or 1.5.

I recently took an interest in the One 4x(made by datawrite) mirror topped disc, since they are coming in at £21 for 25. They have Lead-data Dye and have been given excellent reveiws on DVD recordable.org. DONT BUY THESE IF YOU ARE USING THE CRACKED 2 FOR ALL v1.33 for the AO5. They wont work at all!! I learned this the hard way and now I am desperately waiting for an official firmware upgrade from v1.33.

  11. I mean if you have a Pioneer AO5 with the un-official V1.33 firmware upgrade, your drive will not see those discs. you wont be able to write to them. If it wasnt for that I wiould be using them because they have had great reveiws as a suitable alternative to Ritek 4x for less than £1 each. I dont know about you but I pay £1.30 per disc for 4x Ritek. I could get 75 of those 'One' 4x for the price of 50 ritek.... apart from my drive cant see them.

The force is strong in you my son!.. you are one of the lucky ones. here is an interesting point. I have a friend whom has the same problem as me. I have another friend who has no problem with them, yet he gave me the firmware upgrade in the first place and it is the very same one he used!! weird. I dont get it. Its an exact science sometimes.
