Converting DV files from a Sony DV camcorder via Tmpeg as SVCDs results in pictures (played from a DVD player on a TV set as well as in WIN DVD)which reminds on a wall: on block on top of the other (I think this is called blockiness?!)
What is wrong with my encoding? Any idea?
Thank you for the support.

Thats odd. A low light video? I normally convert the dv to vcd using tmpg, and they look fine. Where is the video comming from? is it video you took or from another source. are you using the camera as a pass though?

Check your encoding setting. Use CQ_VBR (min 0, max 2600) to see if it get rid of the blockiness.
DV source should give very good SVCD.

For better understanding of the issue the prozess is like follows:
- capturing from Sony DV camcorder (DV-PAL) via fire wire to Macintosh /iMovie
(tried alternative to capture directly to a windows PC but this did not change the result)
- burning of native DV file (15 sec. of lenght only) on a CD-ROM to move it to a Windows PC
- loading it into my Windows-NT laptop from the CD-ROM
- converting it to MPEG2 with TMEPGenc 12h (setting PAL - SVCD)
- looking on the result with WINDVD
- burning the SVCD with NERO 5.5
The next days I will try the settings recommended by ktwin and report the results.
Can I find a short DV-PAL file in the internet which is being proven to get good results with TMPEGenc to be able try out if TMPGenc is working fine in my enviroment?
