I am going to rip a DVD ......
But how do i calculate the best resolution for a DivX?
I mean if I pick 644k/s for the video and 128k/s mp3 for a 2 hours movies how should i know what the best/resonable resolution is?

Go to http://www.doom9.org and look at the Gordian Knot faq/guides. They have recommendations on bitrate/resolution for best quaility. IIRC Gordian knot has this feature build in.
Given that this appears to be your first post, you might want to considering d/loaded this software package and letting it do most of the work for you.
