  1. 1) What specs would I need to be able to playback SVCD on a PC?
    2) Would I need any special software to playback SVCD on my PC, or will it work on a standard VCD player such as Xing or QuickVCD?
    3) How would I convert SVCD into VCD, and what tools are needed?

  2. 1) standard SVCD specs here: https://www.videohelp.com/svcd

however, PC's are not nearly as picky as standalone dvd players. if you can manage to burn your .mpg file as a SVCD (i.e. using nero) whether it's standard, compliant....or not, it will play in your PC. i'm assuming you have powerDVD or winDVD...as those 2 are the only programs i know of that can play SVCD discs.

however, do not use your PC to judge whether the SVCD will play in a dvd player or not, as your PC will play lots of formats, media that various dvd players may not.

  3. Thanks for the help.

I don't have a DVD player, or any way of playing VCD/SVCD except my PC. However my PC is only 266mhz which is too slow to use those DVD players you mentioned (you need a minimum 350).
It seems my only option is to convert the SVCD into VCD.
Would I need any special codecs installed to do this conversion, or would I only need the mpeg-2 codec for playback of SVCD?
(This is not clear on the website)

My old PC, a Pentium II 266Mhz played SVCDs fine. I downloaded some free MPEG-2 codec and the SVCDs would play in Windows Media player or VideoLAN or something
