  12. Well I just burnt 9 episodes of a 43 minute TV show I had downloaded from kazaa. Was looking around for some guides and although they gave some general idea in the end worked out my own process.

    1. source as mpeg1 files from Kazaa (VCD format usually)
    2. Used Ulead DVD Workshop. Loaded each of my 9 files into the project and when I choose the burn to DVD option selected as format 352x240 1150kb/sec data rate 384kbs sound.

Program took about 30 minutes to render the project and then another 15 minutes to make the VIDEO_TS folder which I then burnt to DVD using Nero (could have used the builtin burner in DVD Workshop). Pretty painless and now I have 9 episodes on one DVD complete with menu which is pretty handy

  13. Hey can you help me then with like the steps to go through it? cause im not sure i understand fully what your saying. In detail so i can understand it

  14. @kiddnappstEr,

sorry, but i cannot baby you. that's what guides are for. you need to read them completely and thoroughly first before you start asking for help because alot of questions can be answered by taking some time and reading those guides...

    so again,

put VCD MPEG-1 on DVD: https://www.videohelp.com/vcddvdr.htm

put SVCD MPEG-2 on DVD: https://www.videohelp.com/svcddvdr.htm

so, depending on if you want to put VCDs or SVCDs on DVDs, you need to follow the appropriate link and read.

well...for .avi files, you need to convert them to .mpg

as for .mpg files..they can either be MPEG-1 or MPEG-2...which one?

You will lose quality only if the AVI is higher quality than the resultant MPEG-1 or 2 file

If you made the AVI yourself from videotape captured to your computer,
there exists a good chance that making MPEG of either kind will result
    in quality loss

AVI, however is a name for a wide range of file types from COMPRESSED MOVIES like Cinepak or Microsoft 1 compressed AVI
or could be DIVX or XVID in an AVI wrapper..this will be MPEG-4 but will bear the AVI name as well.

So until you say what kind of AVI you are talking about

Now the quality loss is not in the conversion process...as that is optimized to make the least loss possible.
Wher loss will come in, is if you select a bit rate too low in the conversion

When you convert to MPEG-1 or 2 you select a bitrate

If you're making a DVD the bit rate cannot exceed
    10MILLION BITS A SECOND
which is why many people encode at 8MILLION BITS leaving 2MILLION for
    the sound part..

There is no difference between MPEG-2 and 1 in quality
but you can't use MPEG-1 on a DVD (except low quality MPEG-1)
and when you make the MPEG-1 at 10MILLION BITS, the file size is much large than MPEG-2..
so people always use MPEG-1 to make smaller and lesser quality files than MPEG-2

  22. @dcsos

I don' know that AVI is only a container ... and has more meaning than mpg! I see that I have to read some more

I think I begin with a VCD format .... and then SVCD .... afterwards DVD format.

Anyway .... thank you for the explanation.
