if your player can play a raw mpeg file, you can just burn it as a data disc.
if your player won't play a raw mpeg, you need to author the disc. Take a look at the guides under How To: Author at the upper left of the screen.- housepig

About the authoring it says i can make menus and stuff id like to do that like this link " https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/139093.php " what? like should i still go with https://www.videohelp.com/forum/userguides/120013.php
Sorry man im a real n00b when it comes to this, hopefully i'll catch on -
you need to decide on some software to use.
my suggestion - go to the Tools section (look to the lower left) and look at the tools listed under DVD Authoring.
Many will have 30-day trial versions. Download some and try them out. One of them will strike you as having flexibility and ease of use balanced nicely. Stick with that one.
Personally, I like DVD Lab, because it's not a Fisher-Price-style "let me hold your hand every step" app, and it's deep enough that I can do all the stuff I want to do with it.
Other people like apps that walk you through the process. Others like apps like Scenarist and Maestro that, for me, are overkill. But it's going to depend on what speaks to you, and what you feel comfortable using to get the results you want.
What ever one you think feels right, read the help files and the manual and work through any tutorials in the manual or the company's website. Check for specific threads and guides here, as well as with the manufacturer - DVD Lab has a really active forum, and the guy who created the program is very active and responsive in that forum, which is one of the reasons I like it.- housepig

For a begginer like me which would you suggest start out with. Id think i would be good with a Fisher Price style lol like you said. a walkthrough. Can you suggest one? also would this help me make a DVD to be playable on a DVD Player?
-
probably any of the Ulead programs will do you. NeoDVD is also pretty noob friendly, although very irritating in it's limitations (like number of chapters, menu designs, etc..)
some of the cheap Sonic stuff will also walk you through stuff - like MyDVD, etc.
what came with your burner? check that stuff first - I got MyDVD with mine, but I already had other ideas by the time I started authoring fresh material.
as for whether or not it will play on your home player - depends on your player. check in the DVD Players section and look it up, see what kind of media (+R or -R) it likes.- housepig

ok got the info as far as -R or what you said im not sure sorry its kinda confusing there heres the link https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers.php?DVDnameid=445&Search=Search&#comments

okay, so according to that link, it will play movies burned on either +R or -R, so either way you're fine. And it has a long list of media that's been tested on PS2's.
so what do you need to know? you have your files you want to put on a disc, you have your authoring software, you have a burner, you know what type of media your player will take.- housepig

one thing about the Authoring software, I go into MyDvD? and thatll burn it? also id like to make chapters and maybe a menu if its not hard
-
Some DVD players will read raw mpeg files. The Mintek 1600 will read them ($50 or less at BestBuy).
-
okay, here's the deal - MyDVD will take the raw mpeg files, allow you to add chapters & menus, and will then output (compile) a set of files that are recognizable to a dvd player.
Once you have those files (usually two folders, an empty one labelled AUDIO_TS and a full one VIDEO_TS), you can use Nero to burn a dvd-video disc.
I think you need to do some serious reading in the guides, or at least get yourself some rewriteable discs, because you seem pretty shaky on some of the concepts here...- housepig

I seem to have the same problem as kidd. I burned my DVD RW as a data disc and put the raw MPEG file on it. My dvd player said it didnt play back so...u said I had to author it. I really dont mind if it had chapters or not at this point becuase I'm really a noob. I just want the movie to play on my dvd player. What software should I use and can u help me out or give me some tips.
-
most dvd players can't play .mpg files simply burned on a DATA DVD.
the .mpg needs to be authored into a VIDEO DVD.
-------------
this is similar to the requirement to author .mpg to (S)VCD....dvd players won't read the .mpg files directly from the CD-R...need to be authored as (S)VCD.
--------
look at guides here to author DVD: https://www.videohelp.com/guides.php?howtoselect=3;6 -
The $47 (at BestBuy) Mintek 1600 DVD player will play raw mpeg files. I know this because I did just that when I bought my first burner.
-
check the Tools section, there is some freeware under the DVD Author section.
however, your dvd drive should have come with some software for this. I have a Sony drive, it came with Sonic's MyDVD... I don't like it or use it, but it will work to author.
What software came with your drive?- housepig

Is SpruceUp a good one?
I've seen posts that suggest it was good in it's time, but that newer, and more importantly still available, software has eclipsed it.- housepig
