Started out with two SVCD files and used Ulead VS to join and encode. For some unkown reason the joined DVD plays on my 4:3 TV as 16:9. Decided to just re-encode the SVCD and be done with it. Well the second time around the DAR was correct, but in doing some file maintenance I managed to delete the wrong DVD file, plus I deleted the SVCD files which are no longer available for download.

So now I'm stuck with trying to correct this stretched DVD. It seems like I should be able to correct the DAR with TMPGEnc, but every possible combination I tried has not worked. Looking for some help. TIA

  2. You'll need TMPEGENC for (de)multiplex and PULLDOWN to change aspect ratio.
    First, demultiplex the file. You'll have a .mp2 and a .m2v files.
Second, you run "pulldown -nopulldown -aspectratio 4:3 <inputfile> <outpufile>
Third, you multiplex the new file and that audio file.

    I hope it works.

Thx much for the post. Used TMPG to demultiplex into video and audio streams. Ran pulldown with the options suggested on the video stream. Used Simple Multiplex in TMPEG to join the streams. Authored and burned to RW, but still getting a stretched DAR.

If you see anything that I might be doing wrong, please post. I'll give it a try again. Thanks again.

  4. Just to clarify...
Have you tried to play that IFO file in your pc before burning?
Use a DVD player for Windows.
Other test: Rip that DVD with Smartripper and verify how it looks.

To be honest with you, I don't have a DVD burner, so I've never burnt a DVDR.
I'd like to know if the problem is before burning. If not, unfortunatelly, I won't have knowledge to help you.

    Good Luck

I'm not exactly sure what the IFO file is, but it is small and wouldn't play using WinDVD.

I tried a slightly different ripping method this time. Used DVD Decrypter and got an IFO file, two VOB and one Stream Information txt file. What is strange is that this text file reports the video as 4:3 So my guess is that the DVD player must think it is a 4:3 video. Maybe pulldown isn't working because some header string is fooling the software. Anyway no luck with getting this file corrected. Certainly appreciate your help.

Not sure what DVD writers are available in Brazil, but I have a NEC 1300A. Bought it a couple months ago for $200 US and it works quite well. Last I checked it is down to $190. You might want to consider this model...quite afforadable. Comes with NERO Express Burning software. I've had mixed success using the copy DVD function in the software even with a DVD that I created. My work around has been to simply copy the _TS folders to the hard drive and burn as usual.

  7. Uhmmm....
In that case, you have made a letter boxed video. It is 4x3, but has black stripes at top and bottom of screen aka Anamorphic Video. Right?
Unfortunatelly, you have to rip, crop, resize and reconvert.
