just finished downloading a huge file and when using winrar was told i needed a password. if i ignored the request for a password or put in an incorrect one, the extraction did not work. any solutions to this would be greatly appreciated. there was no indication that i was downloading a file that would need a password. has anyone heard of this and how to avoid such files. many thanks.

Search the web harder, and get out your credit card. RAR/ZIP passwords aren't that strongly encrypted.

i donwloaded it from one of those xdcc bots (dont know if that is right terminology). how do i contact them. as you can tell i am real new at this.
with respect to the suggestion about software that can crack the passwork, my research shows that they use "brute force" technique which could take forever if the password is several characters long. am i right? -
