Is there anything different about the Pioneer A06D and A06U? I'm confused cause on the pioneer box it says it's an A06U but windows recognizes it as A06D.

Man, I just checked mine after reading your post and mine is recognized as a DVR-106D in Windows XP... I bought it in the retail box.

I was just about to post the same question. I just pulled mine out of the box...put it in and checked device manager and it says 106D. What is up with that????
I (supposedly) purchased the A06U from New Egg in the retail box. I am running Windows XP. -
A06U = retail
A06D = retail????
106D = oem
or what exaclty? anyone know?? -
Pioneer might be trying to get rid of their old drives first. Or it could be online retailers.

Most of the prices are under $250.
That seems strange due to the drive just being released 2 months ago. -
I just called Pioneer and they stated that it should read 106D in device manager, even for the A06U Retail Version. However, on the outside of the drive on the label it should read A06.

I don't trust them. Most of the time they don't know what they're talking about. I've called Pioneer before and the person I spoke with didn't even know what an IDE channel was. On the other hand he could have just been some idoit.

Well, this is my first time calling them, so I don't have any track history with them. However, the guy seemed pretty knowledgeable. Plus, I have yet to find anyone that purchased an A06 and have it actually say A06U in device manager (I think the original poster meant 106D rather than A06D---I don't think there is such a model as A06D).

Where did you buy yours from?
Cheers!
