I was busy locking all of your cross posts and I accidentally locked the ONE post of yours that I meant to leave open. So I just edited out my comment. So now you can see why having 4 of the same post can be confusing.

To try and answer your question, make sure you have your jumpers set correctly. If you look at your IDE cable you will see that one is for master and the other slave. You have to set the jumpers on the DVD-ROM to either master or slave accordingly. If still no go then go to the homepage for your dvd rom manufacturer and see if there are any special drivers available for it.

Please define doesn't work? Does the tray open and does the light blink upon closing the tray. If that checks out then post back. Lets first determine power to device, then we'll go in the device manager. Do you have a software player for the DVD install such as Power DVD or WIn DVD?

if the tray opens and closes, and the light blinks, you are getting power.

if you want to play dvd's from your drive, you are going to need player software such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. I'm not 100% sure if these are necessary if all you want to do is rip dvd's for backup.

try this - take a cd-rom with data on it and place it in the drive - does it show up? If so, your drive is working, and you just need to get some dvd player software.

If not, you will want to check the cable (is the #1 pin [red stripe] on the correct side?), then you want to check the jumpers (is the drive jumpered correctly ie. master, slave, etc), then you want to check your BIOS and see if it sees your drive.

If none of this makes any sense, you should look for the website for the manufacturer and obtain some instructions for your drive, or look for a basic online guide to installing and upgrading drives on a pc.

When you boot up the computer, do you see an entry for the drive, when it detects your floppy and your hard drive?

If the movie plays, then the drive is working. You may need to install the extras. Look on the dvd for instructions

are you sure you're putting in the right disc? (aren't the Potter movies 2-disc sets?)

is your machine capable of running these extras? do they give you the minimum system specs on what you need to run the extras?

dunno... I don't have those, so I haven't tried accessing the extras.

harry potter and the philosopher's stone?
    His name was MackemX

What kind of a man are you? The guy is unconscious in a coma and you don't have the guts to kiss his girlfriend?

  16. Please describe the exact steps you are taking to run the extras and detail what results you get.

My guess is that the extras are programs on the disk and you may have to manually locate and run them, they may not run automatically or thru the menu.

  17. well first of all i put the DVD disk into the drive. then i open up WINDVD and wait for it to load then it loads and plays the intro until it gets to the menu... in the menu i select extra credits which are the DVD ROM features..........then this scroll comes up telling me to insert the disk into a DVD ROM drive to use the DVD ROM features...........and to answer your question gumbo yes harry potter and the philosopher's stone. in england and canada its harry potter and the philososphers stone, in other areas its the sorceror's stone.

  19. anybody have any ideas of how to make the DVD ROM features work?
    Quote Quote
  20. Yes, it sounds like the extras must be located and launched from Windows explorer, they are not designed to run on a DVD player or a simulated one. The message is basicly saying "put this in a PC".
