  1. I once read that CD-Rs (and -RWs) as well as DVD-Rs (as well as -RWs, +Rs, and +RWs) tend to be easier to scratch/damage than actual DVD's and CD's, is this true?

    If so, how much easier?

Buy some and conduct your own test. Start with a finger nail, then drag the disk across your DVD tray, then hand one to a 3 year old to play with while you watch, finally take a orbital sander to it using 120 grit paper. Oh almost forgot, play fresbie with the neighbors dog too. Get my point. Scientific tests are always better than what is!

They're all made out of similar plastic. How much different can they be as far as scratch resistance?

  5. The most vulnerable side is the label side; many have only a layer of laquer on there. In that respect, many recordables (especially branded ones and ones with printable/writeable surfaces) outdo many pressed ones.

So labels can help protect too.
