    Hi everyone...
I've got a bit of a problem. I downloaded TMPGenc Plus and am using the trial version for 14 days.
I'm trying to open an MPEG-2 file and I get a message saying that *.mpg can't open or not supported.
Checking on the Pegasys webpage, it tells me I need to have the Ligos mpeg decoder which I have. I also have Cyberlink PowerDVD installed. When I uncheck the "use overlay" option as directed, it still doesn't read my mpg2 file. And yet, the PowerDVD reads it just fine.

Can anyone help me figure out how to get this to work, please? I'm desperate.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Click "Options" - Environmental Setting" - "VFAPI plug-in"

Try raising the priority of the MPEG2 decoder.

Unfortunately, that didn't work. I've even tried the plugin from the tools section.

    What else can I do?

I had that problem, and couldn't find the solution no matter how deep I dug. I finally discovered that my files were corrupted or something equally screwy. They would play fine in PowerDVD, WinDVD and WMP Classic, but wouldn't open in TMPEGEnc.

On a side note, I recorded wth PowerVCR, then trimmed with MPEG2Cut. It seems that every file that went through MPEG2Cut would be corrupted and wouldn't open in TMPEGEnc. After capturing and trimming in PowerVCR, they opened without a problem.

It's too bad, because MPEG2Cut is a very exact tool for cutting precisely where you want. If anyone has a solution to my problem, I'd much appreciate it.

One way to check the file is to use the main screen of TMPEGEnc (the one that shows Video Source and Audio Source), then choose your mpg2 as the audio source. If it shows up as audio, but no video, then the video portion is corrupted.

I'm sure that there are tons of other things to check for, but these are a few I've come across through trial and error.
