Were you dragging the VIDEO_TS folder from the DVD to DVDBackup? Try that. If it doesn't work, use OSEx in DVD Image mode to extract to your HD.

Another option is to OPTION-DRAG the mounted dvd to your desktop. This will copy the entire disk to your HD.

Then open DVD BACKUP and drag the HD version of the dvd to it and then process it

requires more space, but it works for me when i have this problem on a few disks.

I've only had a few disks that DVDBackup didn't accept. In those cases I Used OSeX. Killer combomation!

  5. Copied it to my hard drive-still wouldn't work with DVD BACKUP...I'm trying OSeX right now...will let you know how it works.

  6. OSex is not working on this one...ended up with a file less than half the size of the original which i couldn't open anyway.I'm now making a disc Image in disk copy just to see if that might work.Any other ideas...

  7. That didn't work either-it said it quit 'cause there wasn't enough space but there was...

Come to think of it-this particular DVD never played right in any of my old players (it plays fine in my new $50 Apex though...)-maybe one has something to do with the other.Does it have some experimental copy protection scheme that rendered it unplayable and therefore that scheme has been abandoned?

IT could, however strange that would be.

Can you boot into OS9. There's an app called dvd extractor that does this backing up for OS9 systems.

all i can say is give that a try.

You pulled all the files over to your HD properly? No errors? And neither DVDBackup nor OSeX liked this dvd copy on your HD????

I can and will try that.

I ran OSex again and got a disc image-that i cannot open up.It's the same size as the original...

I tried every way of dragging or importing files into DVD backup.Certain VOB files (not all) just refused to show up in that DVD Backup dialogue box even from the copy I made from my hard drive no matter the method of importing/dragging whatever.

It's just one movie but ...I'd love to figure out what the problem is.....

    definitely strange...

This might sound odd, but is the disc scratched badly? Are there smudges on it? Is the disc upside down in the drive? If you are using an external DVD drive, is it plugged in?

Seriously though, what I would recommend doing is taking the disc to a friend's house who has either a Mac or PC and try ripping it there to see if it works. If it does, then we can conclude that it is a problem with your current setup, and if it does not work, then its obviously just the disc, and in that case i would recommend searching internet message boards for reports of the same problem and workarounds.

Nah-I mean I see the DVD on my desktop, watched it on my computer-it works fine-(made a disc image of it, OSeX did, it just wouldn't open), so no-it's not anything that simple or obvious....it just won't copy-I've done this with like 20 other DVD's over the last week using Galactica's FAQ with no problems.

Tried searching for other info on other boards but no luck so far.

I've copied several DVD's since this failed attempt so i know all my stuff is working...

I seriously suspect it's something to do with this particular DVD edition though.........

You need to rename the OSEx image from '.IMG' to '.dmg' for it to open with Disk Copy and Toast. Try that. If that didn't work, try DVD Extractor in OS 9, with the 'Save as Image' (or whatever similar) option in the 'File' Menu.

strange. ive made .img's from OSeX and they always open up with disk copy. Right click (or control-click) and go to OPEN WITH, then disk copy and toast should be the options there.

unless you mean when you double click on the .IMG file you want it to open disk copy by its self. then rename to .dmg.

But i suspect your inability to open is due to this strange dvd.

Strange, when I launch Disk Copy and drag the .IMG onto its window, nothing happens, but if I rename it to .dmg, it opens right up. I don't know if the 'open with' option in the contextual menu would do things differently, but I always just rename them to .dmg for simplicity's sake.

I've never actually opened disc copy first, then asked it to open things.

I always right click on the item and my OPEN WITH menu has whatever can open that file (or whatever ive set for it to open with)

I have all disk image extensions set to disc copy or toast and any and work with the OPEN WITH menu.

oh well, it would also work renaming to .dmg because thats the "native" extension for opening disk copy with a double click.

Well I'll have to start over cause I dumped the disc image already. Will re-run Osex and then change the suffix to .dmg and see if that'll do it.Haven't gotten around to trying extractor in OSx.Will let you know my resultt-Thanks

  19. Just got the following email from a guy who seems intimitely familiar with this particular title.I haven't had a chance to try his method yet...

    "Hi:

    Solution (took me a while):

TwoLaneBlackTop - Anchor Bay/Crest Video - They seem to have a very
nonstandard way of authoring things. Stay away when possible. (Even though it’s one of
my favourite movies and I’m EXTREMELY happy, it’s finally available, after
having to rent that Kim's Video bootleg - I bought it there, too...)

All this was in 10.2.5 before I upgraded by the way - maybe that makes a
    difference -

Mount physical DVD, Play with Apple DVDplayer 3.2 in OSX worked fine (ALWAYS
the first crucial step), I made an image with OSeX after that (make DVD image
worked fine, mounted fine with Toast, just tell it to open with Toast in the
get info box, image played with DVD Player 3.2, I think -can’t remember).
DVD2OneX made an image (movie only) but it started with Dennis Wilson in the
hotelroom (which is the second vob in the VIDEO_TS folder). WTF? While trying to
extract the actual movie from the mounted image, OSeX crashed, so did YADE (X
    and 9), and DVDextractor 0.9 in 9 - didn’t try DVDBackup1.3, since I never use
    it - ...Bad IFO?

The only thing that worked for me , was VobRip in X
    (http://www.kianjin.com/goodies.html). Opensource!

Interesting enough, there is no css...try it, the big VOB files in the
VIDEO_TS folder play directly from the DVD in Quicktime, if you have the mpeg2
    component.

My guess - crappy nonstandard authoring

So (no css) you might be able to run VobRip directly from the DVD, which is -
    DUH - otherwise not possible

next step - make a new DVD from that 5 or 6 GB VOB with Sizzle (google that
link please, sorry), I made my own chapters every 5 minutes to be safe

Mount that Image, and DVD2oneX will be happy

BTW, I also had major syncing trouble with Halloween-SE by the Anchor
Bay/Crest Video combo (converting to 3ivx with Diva)

Hope that helps, Good luck (BTW, I got your email through your homepage link
    )

P.S. I NEVER post anything in forums, but I encourage you to forward that
    “wisdom”

    Greetings, FG"
