  1. Okay, I encoded this VCD, and it took almost a full day to do (slow computer I guess). But I stupidly forgot to trim the first bit of the video. So now I have an MPEG1 file, and I need to trim the first thirty seconds off of it. Is there a quick way to do this, or do I have to edit the original .mov file and re-encode it?

you can use MPGTX to trunacate the mpeg file cutting off the first thirty seconds.

    there is an easy way

mpgtx wrap is a mpeg cutter/joiner.

I believe you can just say something like [-1M] to tell it to chop off the first 1 min or [1m-] to do the last 1 min. It will give you examples of this in the window and you type it in the special commands line.

    Or ffmpegx.
Not sure if the newest version still has this, but you can cut by min with the TOOLS option.

Can't you just open the file in quicktime and use the selection triangles on the bottom to select the first 30 secs, and then hit clear?
I know MPEG uses key frames and all that...but I'm sure i was able to do this before....

It would be much easier. That's about it. If I'm wrong on this...I'm just gonna pretend I'm drunk, ok?

Last i tried to do any "cutting/pasting/clearing" on a mpeg file with quicktime pro all the options were greyed out.

    I dont think it does.
but then again, its been a while since i tried, maybe the newest of new updates makes it so it will.

either case, it can be done.
