Ok, I know this can't be hard but I read that it can be done, but I don't know what I am doing wrong.

The problem is I am trying to get a backup copy of Gangs of New York to 1 DVDr. I rip both discs vobs to different directories, then took the main film VOB's from both rips and put them in one directory, renaming them in the process so that they were concurrent (VTS_01_1 to VTS_01_8). I then used IFOEdit to generate new IFO files etc. I then used DVD2one to compress the film to fit on one DVD.

I played the resultant on my PC using PowerDVD and it played OK with a small blip at the crossover point between the two halves. However, when I put it into my DVD player it went through to the join and then jumped back to the beginning and refused to play the second half of the film. Do any of you know why it did this?
