Adding Subs to avi

I've downloaded a Japanese Anime (AVI) but i want to add subs to it .... how can i do it ??? The subs are in .sub format so do i have to convert the subs and what porgramz do i must use to do that ???

Use submax to convert .sub to .srt.
Use submax to sync subtitle with avi

use virtual dub with the textsub plugin...

open vdub
open avi file
video -> filters -> textsub -> ok
open coverted srt file

set compression to divx or xvid (need to install codec)
file -> save as avi
