I was in the process of extracting my copy of Iron Maiden-Rock In Rio with DVD Decrypter. As I was doing it all seemed fine until I hit the 62% mark then I got an error and it stopped. I forget the exact wording but it mentioned something about Writing Canvas I believe. I thought everything was ok but when I went to eject the DVD out of the drive I noticed the light was off and I was unable to open it. I rebooted and all was fine, got the disc out but now I'm kind of worried. Could it be some type of odd encryption scheme locked the drive until I rebooted? I'm not too sure what happened and I'm kind of worried. Luckily this drive is still under warranty so I can go and exchange it if I must but I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas what can cause this, or if they have had this happen to themselves. I'm not sure if it matters but mine is the Cendyne rebadged version and its hooked up in my PC through Cable Select. Its worked fine for 2 months and this is the first problem I've had.

  2. Could be the disc is damaged, are there any noticable scratches on the surface. Have you tried a different disc since this one.

I've had a similar problem with Saving Private Ryan. The problem happened just after the layer change and it turned out to be a scratched disc.

I've ripped plenty of discs since without any problems.
