I have an avi file encoded with divx + mp3. Upon open of the avifile using virtual dub v1.51, it show
    ----
VirtualDub has detected an improper VBR audio encoding in the source AVI file and will rewrite the
audio header with standard CBR values during processing for better compatibility. This may
introduce up to 10422 ms of skew from the video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the
*entire* audio stream to an uncompressed WAV file and recompress with a constant bitrate
    encoder. (bitrate: 141.5 ± 20.9 kbps)
    ---

I proceed with the usual step to extract the uncompressed form of the sound. When saving the file, the following error occur. "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format."

What can be used to correct this? I don't think this is the virtual dub error as I had already extract dozen of file without fail!

  2. I use DVD2SVCD and CCE and all the other stuff to encode my divx/xvid files. I often get a dr. watson error when he wants to encode the audio with CCE.

What I do is open virtualDUB, open the avi file, i get the same message, under video i select direct stream and leave the audio as it is.
After saving the file and encode with dvd2svcd and CCE and all the other programs you need, i find that the audio is out of synch...

So maybe the direct stream option is a solution for you... ?
maybe the others have an answer to my question?
    Thanks!

i also extracted the original sound from the avi, then I use a wave editor to convert the sound(wav) file to its uncompressed state

Extract the audio with Goldwave, it's all I use when the sound is VBR-MP3 or AC3.
