    Looks like a normal bit-rate calculator, except for the part where you alter the GOP structure. Is this going to make a difference quality-wise? Will it harm DVD-compatability?

    they are within the bounds of GOP lenth for DVD and yes - changing the GOP basewd on bit rate can improve your picture ..

    but some encoders work better at some GOP settings than others (i cant tell you why) , and accually the ratio of I and P and B pictures is a set formula but you can mess with it --

    in other words - go ahead if you know what your doing but accepting the encoder defaults is a good failsafe ....

    doing short samples at different settings is certainly good learning ..
