I am interested in buying a particular region 2 and/or 4 DVD. Just got into this whole DVD ripping thing, if I bought this DVD, could I rip it and copy it to a blank DVD+R and play it in my Region 1 DVD player?

    Thanks.

  2. Yes and no. Yes you can rip it (the region only refers to playing not ripping). But correct me if I'm wrong but region 2 is Europe which = PAL. So you can't just burn and play that on most USA players (which are NTSC).

Some players (eg. cyberhome) will do a PAL to NTSC converison on the fly for you, but most will not. Do a forum search for PAL to NTSC, but what seems to work the best/easiest is to:

    1) Rip DVD the full DVD to HD (smartripper choose backup, or in DVD Decrypter choose 'Mode | File' then select all files)

    2) Open the VIDEO_TS.IFO in IFOEdit. Click 'make region free' and let it do it's thing.

    3) Scan the EVERY IFO file for where is says PAL, double click on that line and change it to NTSC (header trick, this actually seems to work).

    4) Burn the VIDEO_TS folder as normal
