I'd like to know if you can use any avi codec with this card (e.g. HuffYUV or MJPEG). I don't care much for MPEG-1/2 capture.
And is the card flexible when it comes to setting the capture resolution or does it limit the user to a few resolutions?
Also, if someone has the PAL version of the card, does it have some sort of PAL-60 mode to capture NTSC material played back on a PAL VCR?

Yes you can use other third party software such as Morgan Multimedia MJPEG and HuffYUV to capture AVI with this card.
This card is able to capture video using standard resolutions such as 352*240 (NTSC), 352*288 (PAL), 640*480, 720*480 (NTSC) and 720*576 (PAL). If you intend to capture video using resolution that is higher than 352*288 then you may want to stick using its bundled WinPVR software, since I've never been able to do so using other video capture software such as VirtualDub.
I do have the PAL version of this card. I have never captured AVI from any NTSC video that is played back on PAL VCR, but I did capture videos from other direct NTSC sources using 350*240 and 720*480 resolutions. -
