I have been making VCD's and XVCD's and there are always a few videos that I can't decompress. I get two different types of error messages when using virtual dub to decompress audio into wav. The first, and most common is: "VCD has detected an improper Video Bitrate (VBR) audio encoding in the source Avi file and will rewrite the audio header with standard VBR values during the process for better compatability. This may inroduce up to ____ milliseconds of skew from video stream. If this is unacceptable, decompress the *entire* audio stream to an uncompressed wave file and recompress with a constant bitrate encoder."
I know how to decompress the entire wave file without using compression like mp3, but but I don't know how to recompress with a constant bitrate encoder (though I know what CBR means). Can I use VD for this, or should I use something else?
I also encounter a second, less frequent error that says: "the requested audio compression is not compatible with the input format. Check the sampling rate of the input and match those of the required format."
I am not sure what to do about this. Is sampling referring to the audio rate of 44,000hz or 48K, etc? Any help with these problems would greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The first error sounds like VBR encoded MP3 and the second might be AC3. For more details, you can look at the Vdub "File Information" or you can use Gspot (in the Tools section) to test your file. You might need the AC3 codec.
You can use Goldwave to extract your wav files in any case, here's a guide.
