I just purchased a Toshiba SD-R5002 burner. I've copied 4 DVD movies so far (DEEP BLUE SEA, UNDERCOVER BROTHER, FRIDAY AFTER NEXT and NEW JACK CITY) using DVDXCOPY Express. I like that fact that I can make copies easily with only 2 mouse clicks. And the copies came out pretty good (I defrag my hard drive between the rip and the burn so that helps). My only complaint is that the ripped image file automatically deletes at the end of the burn so if I have an incomplete burn and I have it go through the entire rip/burn process all over again. Otherwise a fine program.

you can go to the temp folder and copy/move the files so that you can save/edit them later

  3. Defragging the hard drive every-time IMO is a bit of overkill.

I use the program a lot these days because I'm lazy and it does a fine job.

Bob W... We're both engineers, so I know you can't be as lazy as you often say you are. LOL

Depends on what criteria you use to determine "better". Certainly you won't find anything easier to use for $49. I haven't seen anything that gives better quality for $49.

I defrag before I burn a newly loaded audio file to CDs so it's just a force of habit with me.

Instant Copy 7 will give you better result and cost me 19$
DVDShrink 2.3 will also get the same result (or even better) and it's free

Still a matter of your criteria for (and opinion of) what's"better". I've used Instant Copy and the result seems about the same. It's not easier to use- particularily if you want to do the movie only with no extras. And it's a certainly a lot slower.

I haven't used DVDShrink so don't know how fast and easy it is or what the result looks like.

Since it's free, why not try it? IMO, the quality is on a par with IC -- up to ~6GB.

How's the speed? When I'm concerned about the quality I still use IC, but for most things Xpress is fine. If DVDShrink is faster then it would be worth a try.

  12. I would definetely use dvdshrink before i pay any amount of money for anything else. Shrink allows you to select your audio tracks and do a movie only or shrink the movie to make it fit on one dvdr, without any noticable pixelation...up to around 20%.

Try dvdshrink, i dont think you will be dissapointed, and its almost as easy as xpress.
