  1. 1/ I just got it yesterday. I recorded something and tried to add a nicer menu with Ulead DVD Movie factory 2. But the program says that it does not accept AC3 sound and that I need to convert it ?!?! Is there something I need to do to avoid that?

PS: I forgot to mention that the recorder shows the sound as PCM not AC3!

2/ Also, I wanted to test recording some of my old VHS tapes. One worked great, but for the other one, I got the copyrighted warning from the recorder. I tried to put my device that removes macrovision, but got the same problem! So can't I transfer my own videos to DVD?

    Thanks for your help.

  3. I tried the same you did importing into Ulead DVD Factory 2.0, No AC-3 support.

So, I discovered recently of another program option.

I have a standalone Sony RDR-GX7 DVD recorder that can record to +-RW. I broke down and bought one, because I was having so much problems with AUDIO SYNC. (ex. ATI Radeon AIW card, Haup. PVR-250)
The audio sync problems are not always the cards fault but the way they mpg encode the files (extra filler info/streams,that screw up the final VOB files). And Ulead DVD always screwed them on the final DVD.

    STEP 1:
So what I do is record onto DVD-RW's, my old home movies from VHS using my Sony RDR-GX7 Standalone recorder. I heard on this forum about TMPGENC Author. So I downloaded the trial version and it accepts AC-3 with no problems. It's a great problem, I will probably purchase it when my 30 day trial expires.

    STEP 2:
I take the files (the whole VIDEO_TS folder) to my computer and use TMPGENC DVD Author.

    STEP 3:

Add better menu's and edit the chapters, and then finally burn to a DVD-+R using my Sony DRU-500A. It works great and nothe wife is happy about the Audio Sync problem.

    I hope this helps?

What I meant was that with the Philips 985 standalone dvd recorder I can use MovieFactory to change the menu on the RW+disk itself. With the Sony RDR-GX7 I record a RW- but I can't change the menu with MovieFactory. As a matter of fact none of my dvd drives even recognize the disk. I have a Pioneer A03, and the sony external dvd drive. They both read RW- and + disks but not if recorded in DVD RW- VR mode instead of video mode. I hope I'm making sense. Any help will be greatly appreciated. There isn't much on the RDR-GX7 yet so I'm hoping others will share their experiences as far as editing is concerned.

You have saved my life! Thanks Philip for the information. I would have never figured that out on my own. I try to read as much as I can in the different forums but no one else seems to have this problem.

  9. Regarding the Sony RDR-GX7 VR format problem, is there a software solution for Mac OS 9.2.2 using a Pioneer A05 external burner?
