640 x 480 PAL Divx to NTSC DVD Conversion Question

Im trying to convert 640 x 480 PAL Divx to NTSC DVD - I a m using the guides on this site but am having trouble with seeing lines when there is any sudden movement in the video content. I am using vurtualdub to extract wav file then using tmpgenc to recode to mpg2. The video looks fine besides the lines that show up here and there. I have a feeling that I am not getting the framrate set right or something. Any help woudl be appreciated.

why do you believe it to be PAL? is it 25fps?
Sounds like you are seeing interlace lines, this is either a -very- badly teleclined film or is pure interlaced video (most likely a TV series or very low budget film)
If you encode the file anyway, how does the output appear on the TV? are the interlace lines observable all the time, or do they come and go?

I believe it is pal beause I looked at the file info and it says 25 fps. The interlace lines come and go (only when a there is a fast pan across the screen etc.) Thanks for your help.

its interlaced lines. it will look good on your tv.

Thats the problem - It doesn't look good on the tv, it looks good on the computer.

are you encoding it as interlaced, and are you telling TMPGEnc that the source is interlaced?

I am using non-interlaced settings for both just like it says to on this site's instructions - should I be doing it differently?

Apply the deinterlace filter in VDub, then frameserve to TMPGEnc. I hope that works.....
