I just found out by error that I can burn an avi file to disc and watch it on my player. If this is the case what are the benefits converting it to MPEG.

  2. None really. Although the KISS line is are the only standalones I know how that will play avi/divx/xvid directly. But if it works for you just go with it.

The only reason to convert to MPEG would to for chapter points, menus, and other 'extra features.' BTW - what standalone (ie. DVD Player) are you using?

i would say 99% of dvd players cannot play avi. thats the advantage of converting to mpeg. but if your player can handle them, go ahead. you get better quality for your bitrate.
