  1. I was reading in another post about this "internal" Blockbuster plan which offers unlimited DVD rentals for a monthly fee. You can rent up to 2-3 per day for the month and the fee is either $19.99 or $29.99?

Some people commented on this and I know a plan like this existed for $19.99 down here about a year ago or so, but since then, only the games have been offered for $19.99 with a max of two per day.

I called around and asked all the local BlockBuster stores and they all said the same thing..ONLY THE GAMES....so i'm curious which States or Cities currently have this promotion going on? And how long has this promotion been active?

Hopefully my local Blockbuster stores will start this soon and we're just late down here.

  2. I never remember them ever advertising unlimited movies. IIRC they used to have a deal where you could rent something like 20 movies on weekdays, one at a time, per month but I have not heard any ads for that in over a year.

  3. right, either have I, but several posters in another post...I believe the latest news "Blockbuster no late fee test" post mentioned that Blockbuster does have this promotion currently. As I said, the only time I remember it was a year or so ago...since then, it has been non-existant down here.

I think BlockBuster realizes that they can do it for games, because most people will want to keep the games longer then a day or so to beat them...but movies...well Blockbuster will lose much more money having the movie plan because it's very easy for many to watch a movie or so per night...but to beat a game per night...well that's another story.

I think they are starting that here in Minnesota, I keep seeing some funky banner in their window about "no late fees!" ....

... but I rarely rent from them, last time was just to use up a gift certificate someone gave me.

for my tastes, Discount Video in Uptown Minneapolis has the best selection - not a ton of dvd, but huge amounts of rare and obscure titles, and a knowledgable staff.

What did the Blockbuster manager get on his I.Q. test?

  5. LOL, for some reason that reminded me of the movie Bowfinger.

  6. lol..yea, the late fee thing is an entirely new deal apparently. There is a post for it on the Latest News section. I too, rarely rent from Blockbuster. The employee's generally don't know their ass from their elbow...and I agree....the smaller Video stores have the more rare titles.

That just not the only reason I don't use blockbuster...Netflix ends up getting me most movies within a day..so for $19.99/month..it ends up being a dollar or so per movie. Even when you get a free favorites rental with the Rewards plan in Blockbuster...it still ends up being about $2 per movie....not that it is a bad plan..just can't touch netflix because the turnaround time is mostly as early as ONE DAY for return movies and movies received.

But if my local BlockBuster(s) had this $19.99 unlimited movie rental deal like some others have claimed they do in their cities...then it would be an excellent deal.

  7. i'm currently on the "game freedom pass" at blockbuster.. i've only checked out 2 games in 2 days... i wonder if it would be fishy if i went in every hour to get a new game.. heh.. its only 1 game at a time though, but as many rentals as you want..

i could amass quite a large collection.. i even asked the guy "so you're saying, i can come in rent a game, come back in 10 minutes and get another one, over and over all day long".. and he said yes..

it would be a good idea for blockbuster to the same thing with movies.. except i doubt it would be worth it for them to do it on "new release" movies.. i'd join if it were for their "favorites" movies only.. they do have quite a few movies i'd like to watch and "remember"..

I dunno about Discount Video in Uptown. A friend of mine worked there and he's pretty much oblivious to classic and contemporary movies. His only claim there was his knowledge of anime. He hasn't worked there for a while though. I remember he was able to get a lot of titles I couldn't find anywhere else, but then most movies I want to see I want to own so I don't rent much anymore.

I do get to Blockbuster just because there are some movies I'm not sure about and want to see them first before picking up a copy. It's also a wonderful resource for previewing games before buying it to finish it off. If I can beat a game in the time I get for renting it than it certainly isn't worth owning.

  9. @jeex, who cares if they get suspicious...what are they gonna do? Not sure where you live, but no bullshit...where I live there are 8 blockbuster locations within 5 minutes...again, NO BULLSHIT.....it even amazes me.....last year Blockbuster offered the movie deal and it was FOR NEW RELEASES AS WELL AS the Favorites. I agree too though..even if it were for ONLY Favorites..it would still be a very worth while program.

I didn't catch it last year, but I will definitely catch it this year.

Anybody at all who responded to that NO LATE FEE BLOCKBUSTER post by saying BB has this MOVIE plan in their area...care to comment where they live?

but that's the difference between him and the average Blockbuster drone... at least he knows something!

still love that place - online movie search, and if you hit them with the tape number you can call ahead and have them pull your flicks so you can walk in and pick up...

Somewhat off the topic here, but I thought I'd share.

There's this place called Diamond Head Video about ten miles away from my house. There's a small neighborhood of local shops in the area and a lot of eateries. Anyway, I thought the place was a porn shop for 15 years, until I found out the other day that they're just a regular video store. I think they have a small selection of porn in the back, but they primarily sell and rent "normal" movies. My bad.

  12. I have the movie freedom pass. It is that you can rent any 2 movies(new or old) for as long as you want. It can be DVD or VHS. There are no late fees, just return when you want to and get 2 more. It is a great deal. This is in Utah.

  13. In NYC its called a movie freedom pass. You can rent any 3 dvds/vhs each time you want for as long as you want. Its $29.99 a month. They have a game version of this and it is $19.99.

  14. so Utah and NYC BOTH have this Movie Freedom pass right now....can either of you confirm how long this plan has been going on. That really sucks that it's only in certain States. As I said..they did have that plan down here LAST YEAR..and it was ONLY $19.99/month...the same as the current Game Freedom Pass. They stopped this after last summer and now have the GAME PASS deal back...but no movie freedom pass.

Anybody else live in a State where Blockbuster has this unlimited plan?
