    Hi

I have an .mpg file that is encoded as a PAL SVCD.
I have a copy of Nero 5.5.1.8 with SVCD Plugin Version 1.3.

I have followed the exact instructions on this website on how to copy with Nero (even at 2X) but it just wont work.

My Sony DVD Player does play SVCD's normally, but not when I burn them . It throws up error message 'cannot play disk'

My PC DVD-ROM/CD WRITER doesn't recognise the disk either.

The .mpg plays fine on Media Player/WinDVD/PowerDVD

I have tried re-encoding (althought it is correct) with both Canopus Pro-Coder and CCE.

Anyone got any thoughts on where I could be going wrong

Just thought I would ask, is you DVD player a PAL or NTSC player. If you are in NTSC land, others disks would play but maybe not the ones you burn in PAL format.

I only ask because I see it is your first post, and I remember that I started off thinking why not do everything in PAL for the higher resolution.

If you are experienced, don't take offense.

    For info on burning

My DVD Player is PAL but my PC don't recognise the CD Either.

I have also tried burning a separate .bin .cue file using Nero and that doesn't work either.

This is the first time I have attempted to burn an .mpg.

Is there somehting basic that I am forgetting to set up correctly on my PC, or with Nero?

I don't suppose my CD Writer will make a difference, but just incase I'll let you know it's a Mitsumi 4802TE.

Keep the posts coming as I really stuck

how do you know this? did you try a friend's SVCD or a commercial SVCD, if there ever was one????

did you check your player at the dvd player compatibility section?

    https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

perhaps, it can play SVCDs, but requires the VCD header trick....heard some sony's only played SVCDs this way.

I have a Sony NS-305 with Firmware revision 1.8 which is capable of playing SVCD's. I have played a friends burned SVCD fine.
My firend's DVD Player will not play my burned SVCD either.

However I think this is missing the point slightly as my PC will not even recognise my burned SVCD either.

    Any new ideas

Can You see any files on the burned CD?
IF NO, You need to REPLACE the CD BURNING APPLICATION
Try Easy CD Creator 5 or Higher or
Easy VCD if your drive supports it

If you can see files..DRAG the one in the MPEGAV folder to an open POWER DVD window to see if the file will play

I can't see any files on the CD as the CD is not recognised on my PC

I'll try Easy CD and let you know the outcome.

But why won't Nero work, I have a version that supports SVCD's and the SVCD Pluggin?

Has anyone else had a problem with Nero

I had this problem with a MITSUMI burner

The shitty NTI CD MAKER bundled with it couldn't burn a cd either.
Someday I predict you'll be able to use nero..
But get it working with something else first..Then you can come back
    to making NERO work..

Like once you get another program working
    try uninstalling NERO 5xxx
and trying a fresh NERO 6

    So try B's RECORDER too
    or maybe
    STOMP

also try this to update your aspi layer

I am running Windows XP SP1.
I don't understand the above as Nero works with my drive for all other audio and data files

I get back to you on using Easy CD Creator though.

o wait....did you FINALIZE the disc??? you need to finalize the disc so that no further writing can be done on the CD-R. i don't believe there's a multi-session option at all with nero's SVCD template..but if there is, you need to disable it.

but make sure to FINALIZE the disc...that's an option on the burn tab in nero's SVCD template.

    Hi

I have left Nero on my PC and installed VCD Easy V1.6 (400MB limit) aswell, I haven't tried Easy CD Creator Yet.

I have successfully burned an SVCD onto the same CDRW I was using with Nero. This plays both on my PC and on my DVD player. Also VCD Easy is using the same ASPI drivers as Nero is using, therfore the ASPI problem is eliminated.

Any thoughts on Nero as that is what software I would like to use ideally, because of the 400MB limit on VCD Easy. By the way the finalise CD option is checked.

  14. I'm pretty sure standard SVCD is supposed to be Mode 1 so you can get 800Mb/disc. Last I checked, nero uses mode 2 for SVCd (no klew why). Even so, I don't see why your computer wouldn't recognize the disc unless you overburned and it was too glitchy.

  17. errr....

mode 1 is for audio and data = 700 MB/80 min

    mode 2 is for (S)VCD = 800 MB

    This is now sorted.

I updated my version of Nero from 5.5.8.1 to 5.5.10.15.

I have burned a 4 minute SVCD and it works both on my PC and standalone DVD player.
