    $10,421.00!!

so you can make it whatever you want really.

im talking the high end, choice number 3, G5 is $3000

ive yet to see a high end, choice number 3 apple comptuer be higher than that.

customize the heck out of it and it can go even higher than $10k

Im no expert, but that sound like a slap in the face to the "other Intel based Personal Computers."

Either way you look at it, this machine is going to ROCK!
I cant wait until i get one!
It isn't anything that Intel doesn't already have.

    USB2
    Serial ATA
    800MHZ FSB 875P

One-way throughput bandwidth = 6.4 gb/s. That's one way, not total max. Using Apple Math thats 25.6 gb/s total max bandwidth.

I won't post the specs of the board, if your interested, follow the 875P link.

It is a nice offering from Apple, but it's clearly not the power users choice. Even Adobe has slowed for the Apple platform. The PC has more muscle and more users.

The Apple is a nice alternitive, if you need one

I thought were talking about the 2.0Ghz HighEnd with 1Ghz FSB G5?

    now im all confused.

    I'm using IBM's specs.

If the FSB is 1Ghz, then it's overclocked, not a factory (IBM) set speed.
Of course we all know Intel can be overclocked too.

The real world FSB is 200Mhz. It's (insert jargon here) quad pumped to achieve 800Mhz.

    200Mhz FSB x 8 = 1600 CPU (FSB x 4 = 800)
    225Mhz FSB x 8 = 1800 CPU (FSB x 4 = 900)
    250Mhz FSB x 8 = 2000 CPU (FSB x 4 = 1000)

I hope my logic isn't right. If it is, then Apple is just selling the same CPU with overclocked boards at an overclocked price.

I think we should all wait until someone does a head to head with these machines. Using an App that takes advantage of dual CPU, Alti Vec (for Apple), and/or SSE2 (for Intel), and throw in the newer AMD 64bit CPUs just for fun.

Are these G5's on ZIF sockets, or is Apple still using $daughter$ cards like the old 604 boards?

Also the production G5 (PPC 970) is a dumbed down version of the one IBM used in testing. The L2 cache dropped from 1.5mb to 512kb. So IBM's test reports are actually better than what the production G5 can do.

If Apple would like to send me one - I would like to do a very fair comparison using shake and after effects plus compare FCP to PC NLE's.

I would add maya - but the maya machines here have wildcat boards so it would not be a fair comparison ..

    Apple - are you listening?

    That's a review worth reading.

Final Cut Pro vs. Vegas, Avid, et.al.

I've a hunch that FCP would be tied for 1st, or a close second.

I'd like to DVD SP compared to Maestro, just to see how much alike they are.
