  1. I'm just about to get a DVD burner with the aim of transferring all my Hi8 analogue tape to DVD before they degrade any further. I already have a Dazzle DVCII but I'm confused as to what bitrates I should capture at, whether I need to use TMPGENC or something else (.i.e. ulead DVD factory) to convert from DVC2 capture to DVD standard or if I should just get a Aver? capture card for $39 and use that. My aim is to get a 90min tape onto a single DVD and add a few titles/chapters etc so that wife and kids can watch them on the on the standalone DVD player
In previous attempts I have assumed that I should use the DVD template but it create files that are 4 GB (a win98SE limitation I suppose) but only run for about 1hr 10mins. I should add that the source tapes are PAL standard and not NTSC so I presume that I'll have to either convert to NTSC or do a region hack on my Samsung 711 to get them to play.

Please point me in the right direction so that I can get started.

    Thanks

  2. I have the Dazzle 2 its a great card but has problem's with old tape's and the audio goes out of sync. This is what I like to do capture alway's in CBR you just turn of VB that's CBR then push the bitrate as high as it goes. I capture movies that are not on DVD and if the file is bigger then DVD-R I just make the vob file's then run DVD2ONE to make it fit on one DVD-R. I could lower the bitrate but it does not look as good encode very high and if to big make your dvd files then use DVD2ONE best way to do it. Also you should check out www.dazzlegeek.com for old tape's I like the ATI AIW better then dazzle

  3. i have the dvc 2 their is a register fix that can help with audio sync. Also note not everything you run in will have problems. It depends on the quality of the actual source you are using.

the dvc2 does a fine job of making dvds. regarding the bitrate it depends on how long your clip is. Just never use the constant rate and set it to 10 this is above dvd standard and most players will choke on it. the clips you make with the dvc2 are all set for dvd authoring.

Using a timebase corrector or a sync inserter should fix all of your problems if you still have sync issues.
