I am capturing some old Woody Woodpecker cartoons from VHS, and noticed that the scenes that are light with white backgrounds are too bright. The rest of the scenes are excellent in color and contrast.
Can I fix the original AVI file with VDUB? Is there some way of correcting 'gain' or 'gamma'?

My understanding is that a number of DV codecs will make the video look too bright on a computer screen but that it should look OK on a TV. This thread should help you:
