or ge a standalone dvd player that plays divx burned onto cd's. Thats what I have been doing. It also works for a data DVD, so no need for splitting the movie.

yea, but how much does a dvd player that plays divx movies cost. Unless the prices has come down a lot since I looked, its a pretty $$

they are between 150-200. I bough one on ebay, i think it was 176. They work perfectly. I especially like being able to choose a movie from a cd or dvd tha divx instead of having to watch the whole disc.

In an effort to answer the QUESTION here, the best way is to run your .avi file through Divx Doctor [http://doctor.3ivx.com] and tell it to NOT make a standalone movie. This will get you a .MOV file that Quicktime will play where the audio is just fine.

    From Quicktime, Export to MPEG2.

This will create demuxed mpeg2 streams ready for DVDSP.

You can then convert the audio to AC-3 if you want or just use the .AIF format.

As for standalone divx players, i have a handful of them and they all work great. Divx 3.11 included.

quicktime is the most straight-forward way. If you wanted to customize your encoding process, FFMPEGX would no doubt be the way to go. IMHO, however, for this case, I would recommend just using Quicktime.

God knows I would if I had a G4. Damn thing won't run without Altivec. CRAP!

    =P

    Good luck
