  1. As a splice from another topic I have in the SVCD authoring forum, I've just found out that I cannot open the vcdhelp.com sample SVCD MPEG file in TMPGENC.

Should I be able to? Could this be indicative of my problems watching SVCDs on my DVD player? eg missing codec or something ????

You must have installed a mpeg2 codec/player like PowerDVD, ligos mpeg2 codecs to be able to open mpeg2 in TMpgenc. It doesn't work with all codecs/players though(like windvd).

  3. I bet this is the source of my problem then.

I used to be able to open MPEG2 files in TMPGENC a few months back, but since then I have wipped and rebult my system .. obviously loosing a MPEG2 en/decoder along the way.

I thought that I had resinstalled everything as it should be, but I guess there could be something wrong with my Nero & Nero issued MEPEG 2 en/decoder that I got. I guess thats my direction to investigate.

    Cheers buddy 8)

  4. Hmm .. well I've installed uninstalled reinstalled reuninstalled rereinstalled (you get the idea) and nothing has budged.

The CyberLink codec was already in place, but that didnt seem to make any difference, neither did reinstall of PowerDVD.

I've even tried the tmpgenc mpeg2 codec in the tools section on this site. Same problem .. its show, and I've increased its priority ... but I'm still unable to open MPEG2 files.

    Any thoughts ?

Can you play the mpeg2 sample with media player?
Does it work with other mpeg2 samples?

  6. Thanks for the quick response.

No the sample file will not open in WMP, evidence that there is no mpeg2 codec installed right? But the file opens fine in PowerDVD (installed on the same system .. wierd !)

Other samples? Again no, MPEG1 is not a problem, they open fine .. _no_ MPEG2 files will open, in anything other than PowerDVD and VideoLanClient.

I have installed PowerDVD 4 and I can play most mpeg2 with media player and open in Tmpgenc(i had to increase the cyberlink mpeg2 codec first...or decrease the directshow codec).

  8. Argh .. this so annoying !!! This used to work before I reinstalled XP .. thats what I get for messing eh !!

Just tried to uninstall my legit copy of PowerDVD and replace it with the trial version of PowerDVD (5). Same problem.

If it makes any difference, I can run the MPEG2 Sample SVCD file through the "simple demultiplexing" thingymajig, and THEN I can play it in WMP .. still doesnt open in TMPGenc to edit it though

    2nd Edit ..

And I can also extract the video stream from the MPEG file, create the new m2v file and that WILL open for editing in TMPGENC. Any clues ?

  9. Demultiplex it, then multiplex it back together. Will it then play.
