  1. Hi ..... Ive tried to delve a bit deeper into all of this & this is what i "think" I need to do with my avi's ........

Software I think I need are .......... DVD2SVCD, CCE (Cinema Craft Encoder), TMPGEnc DVD Author, Nero (version Ive got is 5.5.10.13) ........

Is this enough or are there any more or is it too many?

I was told about 2 other ....... AC3 Machine .... and DVDRepair ........ what are these & what do they do & are they really necessary & if so where do i get them?

    Thanks for any advice/help/anything else!

    Ian

you say 'my avi's, but what is the actual source of these files, as avi's can take many forms.

If they are your own captures, then to convert to mpeg-2 all you need is Tmpgenc. If your target is DVD then you also need a DVD authoring program such as Ulead DVD MF or WS, Ifoedit if you want basic freeware, plus many others to choose from. Then you can burn with Nero.

If your source avi's are downloaded, then you MAY need other tools to help in the conversion, see some of the convert guides for more help.

Remember avi is simply a wrapper format and can contain data that requires a variety of codecs (both audio and video) to playback and so convert properly.
