  1. I just capped some old TV shows I had on tape and they are filled with commercials. I capped them as MPEG2's to burn to DVD later. What I was wondering is, what the best/easiest program to use to edit out the commercials? Right now the file is a little over 2 gigs, so I have to take that into consideration with whatever program I use. Thanks!

TMPGEnc Plus is the top meow for my capped MPEG-2 editting solution.

TMPGenc could do it, yes, but Video Studio does it and burns it in the same session.
    Hello.

If you're talking commercial software, I have to recommend M2EditPro. It's very fast, MPEG1 and MPEG2, and quite easy to use. Did I mention it was very fast

M2EPro can cut your stuff right down to the frame level, something TMPGENC does inconsistently. Also, it was *tons* faster than TMPGENC when I was writing out the edited file. I like TMPGENC, I'm not bashing it - but it's cut and merge tools are a little primitive compared to a dedicated MPEG1/2 editor.

It's also very easy to find the transitions, the scenes, and navigation around big files can be fairly quick (if you know what you're doing, ie. RTFM ).

I had to edit commercials out of a VHS to VCD transfer (Dr Seuss marathon) for a friend of mine, and this program rose to the occassion admirably.

www.Mediaware.com should have a demo available for download.

Womble MPG2VCR also cuts at frame resolution.
It screws up IVTCed video however.

    They want money for it.

M2Edit is extremely expensive in my opinion.
The demo only does 300 frames.

I have had good success with nanocosmos (comes packaged with WinTV PVR 250). It is fast and precise. It has outlasted my PVR-250

Surprised some had success with TMPG Plus. I think it is slow, quirky, often gets hung and not precise.

  7. I found TMPgenc DVD Author to be the easiest. You can edit out the commercials and it will aslo add a chapter point...at the point you removed the commercial. It will then author the dvd for you.
