Using Canopus ADVC 1394 and using a generic PCI is there a big difference ? I know the ADVC has a lot of functions but I do not need it now.. or should I go with a cheapo 1394 and freeware as DIVO ? If I use the ADVC 1000 and still end up using TMPGENc to encode to DVD resoulutions do you still need the ADVC 1000 ?

If you want to capture your VHS as DV and do not have a camcorder that has pass through, if you get audio drift while capturing large files, and if you want to send DV out to your VHS for recording, sounds like the solution to me. That is what I plan on doing when I get mine.
