When converting .. say .. using TMPGEnc, will the .mpg file always result in a x2 bigger file ? The reason I'm asking is because a friend of mine encoded a movie and made it .avi .. but its on two 500mb+ files.. and now.. if I want to convert that to a VCD .. I'll end up with like 4 CDs .. any ideas ?

Also ... how can I know the projected file size ? A "sneak preview" of the size that the program estimates will be...

Well, the filesize depends on the bitrate. For example VCD is 1150+224=1374 kbps, so 1minute is about 10 MB. Let's say you make a XVCD 2524+224=2748, so 1 minute is about 20 MB.
I am not really sure, what you mean. FitCD shows you the absolute filesize in KB as well.Hope that helps.

FitCD isn't too accurate for the past week I been using it. When I actually encode and burn the CD, the CDR Time comes to +plus ~5 seconds to what it said in FitCD... But it's the most accurate program available, so you can't complain much. =|

How do you figure that "XVCD 2524+224=2748" is about 20mb ?

As I said, use a bitrate calculator. And I prefer FitCD.
Probably you noticed, that 2748 kbps is double as much as 1374 kbps. You guess right, the expected filesize is also double as large.

What a coincidence, a new version of FitCD came out recently! It has a nice colorful, yet very similar GUI =)

    Changes: v0.9.3: Sept, 25th 2001
    - some changes in bitrate- & block analysis
    - added MPEG1-muxing support for e.g. (X)VCD
    - added NTSC-support
    - small bugfixes

A bit is a bit, doesn't matter which kind of file it is.
The difference is, that you can fit up to 807 MB on a 80min (S)VCD, but 700 MB on a 80min DivX (data-CD).
Use a bitrate calculator. Man do it, do it now.
