  1. Can one use just a regular 1394 [generic] and a freeware like Virtual dub or any utility to do so.. pls advise or seps I can take

    yes that would work, your camcorder should aslo have come w/ some capture software, or even the firewire card come w/ some.

    have you bought a firewire card yet?
    i picked up this one for $13 and it came w/ a 6ft cable and ulead 5.0 software.
    it works great.

  5. Thanks so much again. Would the quality be as good as the Cam.. some say it is not. True ? What settings then would I need for DVD Quality high or low ?

    DVIO captures to a DV-AVI file, which is as high a quality as you can get from your camcorder. You can select type-1 or type-2 AVI file format. Type-1 is slightly smaller but embeds the audio with the video stream (which some programs like VirtualDub don't like as much). Type-2 is a little bit larger but more flexible with the audio embedded in a separate stream.
