  1. I am trying to edit a DV movie I made and organize it into chapters on the CD. I presume iMovie/iDVD you can't do this. (if there were better freakin' help resources, maybe I could figure it out). So I'm trying to use DVD studo pro. The problem is, I can't encode my movie so Studio Pro will import it. Using MMT, I encoded my .mov to mpeg-2, and I got an .mpv file, but Studio Pro won't allow me to select it.

Am i trying to do the impossible here? All I want to do is organize my film to put a menu and chapters on it. I also have Final Cut express, is that what I need to work with?

If you have dvd studio pro, you have the mpeg2 export function of quicktime.

open your encoded .mov with quicktime, use export to mpeg2 and it should be good to go for importing to dvd studio pro. This is the coupled mpeg2 encoder for dvd studio pro.

If it doesnt import, its because of some incompatibility with the standards dvd studio pro wants .m2v to be in.
Not sure what the exact specs are, but ive never used anythign but quicktime mpeg2 export when importing that file into DVDSP and its always worked.

I think its because your MMT encoding is not using standard settings for fps/resoltion etc.

  3. I have DVDSP, but apparently I ddidn't get the functionality to export from quicktime.

What are the standard seetings for MMT to export to an mpeg-2?

Thats wierd. Id reinstall it. what verion is it?!? Its supposed to put the component into your library/quicktime folder upon install.

im not exactly sure of the specs for the mpeg2. thats why I use the mpeg2 export that comes with dvd studio pro because it must automatically set the specs *(since ive never had a problem with it to date on importing into dvd studio pro. I have v1.5)

It does it standard, so if you install DVD SP the mpeg-2 encoding should be automatically installed. Reinstall and try again.

I agree. Reinstall and it should be there.

if its not, id contact apple or wherever you bought the program from and see if you cant get another copy because its not installing properly.

If that mpv is MPEG2 (mpv is just an MPEG Video container, and can have any of the various iterations of the MPEG format contained), you can try to drag the file from the Finder to DVDSP's assets window (which is more accepting than the importing open/save dialog). Failing that, try running the 'BITS (timecode)' function of More Missing Tools on the mpv. If it still won't import into DVDSP after that, I'd run PulldownX on it in default settings. If all this doesn't help, you'll probably need to reencode your MPEG2 video. You could either reinstall DVDSP and try to get the QT MPEG2 encoder working, or you could use ffmpegX's mpeg2 encoder, which takes significantly longer, but yields much quality for a given bitrate (and can do VBR encoding).
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
