  1. anyone help here

ive been using tmpgeng for ages now for vcd / svcd work and now have a dvd writer.

problem: - when converted to dvd (PAL) i get picture stick on dark scenes - like the opening titles for example - they stick and jerk into the next title - sometimes not even moving until a picture comes on

im using the settings advised here http://dvd-hq.info/Compression.html

    can anyone help?

ps - this doent happen with procoder

I have exactly the same problem.

It only occurs during very dark scenes and nearly always at the beginning of the movie.

I assumed it was a bitrate problem as the pauses always occured when the bitrate dropped (when playing with PowerDVD and having Show information on).

Trying different Rate control settings did not make a lot of difference although for some reason the pauses were reduced slightly when using CQ.

The source AVI I am having this problem with is PAL xVid (or DivX).

Can anyone please help. I do not have enough money to buy yet another Encoder.

    I am using a Pentium 4.

Interesting that this problem has not been reported by others.

Well after a LOT of hours encoding with different settings in TMPGEnc I have finally solved this problem by using the following settings :

    Constant Quality

    Quality 100

Max Bitrate 4100 (or whatever you calculate)
Min Bitrate 4100 Must be the same as above

Enable Padding OFF (IMPOTRANT many failures with this on)

OK that has solved my problem but I have no idea why.

Do any TMPGEnc experts have any opinion on this?. If so your advice would be greatly appreciated as every guide on TMPGEnc does not recommend really this mode but all other attemps based on TMPGEnce guides cause the DVD player to stop when dark scenes appear.

  6. no good for me matey - i like to do two movies an one disc so the bitraye is no good for me

ive switched onto mainconcept encoder now - dvd encoding at REAL TIME for gods sake - quality as good if not better than tmpgenc - no blockyness on lower bitrates - simply brilliant

first time i used t i thought something must be wrong - how can you encode a 2hr film in 1 1/2 hours!! - to FULL dvd quality!!!

ditch the tmpgenc - this is stacks better

on vcd it will do a whole movie including split the file in less than an hour!!
