  1. OK, I got this avi. movie file that I want to convert to vcd format. I've done this several times already using TMPGEnc. This file though has audio that is in AC3 format. TMPGEnc wouldn't pick it up so I started looking for a audio video splitter so I could cut out the audio then convert it to wave. I tried using vdub but couldn't figure it out so I used a program called Goldwave to convert the audio part. Now i tried to convert this with the movie file using TPGEnc but I keep getting "write errors". I've spent hours trying to figure this out but I'm about out of ideas. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get this avi. and ac3 file converted to mpeg?

Also, When I convert with TMPGEnc all my files end up full screen. Can someone tell me what settings I need to change so that the files I have can run in widescreen? Thanks for any help!

When i convert avi's to mpeg i use avi2wav to extract a wav from my avi.
Then open the avi in tmpgenc and then the wav file. are you having problems with that part?

To make the movie wide screen, after opening the video and audio files, in the expert settings underneath, if your converting using pal select 16:9 625 line (PAL) and with NTSC select 16:9 525 line (NTSC)
You could also just select 16:9 Display

  4. Minimize the Variables!!!

Try to encode the video ONLY, without the audio. The "write error" is almost certainly the problem, additional info on this would be helpful. Also the type and size of the AVI, I assume it's a downloaded Divx, did you check for bad frames?

As for your last question, no, NO ONE can. You have some unusual problem which cannot be resolved until is it better defined.

Here's a guide for removing bad frames, which you should do first.

Here's a guide for extracting AC3 audio which you should do next.

Here's a guide to converting avi to VCD, just pick your encoding program and go.

    Good luck! 8)

  6. Ok, go get NanDub to demux your audio to a true-to-the-form AC3 file. If you need to normalize volume, HERE'S YOUR CHANCE! HeadAC3e it to a WAV. tooLAME it to a MP2 audio file. Open up VirtualDub (I don't like the latest version since it crashes....I've used VirtualDub 1.4.10 for like over a year now and it has never crashed.) You need to figure out if/how you need to resize the frame. (YOU CAN ASK ME!)... Then, frameserve your AVI video to TMPGEnc, and make a Video Only (.mpv) file using TMPGEnc.

.... [quite] a few hours later......

Mux your video and audio using TMPGEnc, and there yah go!
