  1. I have never burned a movie and am trying to burn a svcd with TMPGEnc. I encode it using the instructions on this site and burn it with Nero but when i go to play it in my DVD player it says that there is an error with the cd. What could be the problem.

  2. Could be as simple as your player cannot play SVCD. Or it could be something else you have done incorrectly, try to give a bit more information. Did you encode using the SVCD template, did you select SVCD when authoring in nero, what DVD player do you own.

could be bad media, could be your DVD player doesn't play SVCD's or it may be picky about resolution and file size. My Shinsonic 100A DVD player barely plays SVCD unless the files are REALLY short...so it could be any number of things. I think you need to give some more info before anyone can say for certain. Also does the SVCD play ok in your PC through media player or any similar program?

  4. 1) you need to author your .mpg into a SVCD disc using nero's SVCD template...you CANNOT burn it as simply a DATA CD if you expect your dvd player to play it.

    2) make sure your DVD player supports SVCDs....enter your dvd player here and find out: https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

  5. I used the svcd template and choose svcd with nero. My DVD player is a toshiba. I did everything the same but made a vcd instead of svcd and the vcd worked. I read somewhere that trial versions of TMPGEnc only encodes MPEG 1 and not MPEG 2. Is that true and if it is would that be the problem or would it be my DVD player. When i used the svcd with windows media player it didnt work but it did with vcd.

  6. You get a 30 day trial of mpeg2 after that it is mpeg1 only. Could simply be your DVD player does not support SVCD. I have a pioneer that wull play VCD but will not play SVCD. Have you checked the DVD player compatability list.

  8. Have you checked to see if it will play XVCD? VCD quality is crappy, but you can get near SVCD quality by burning an XVCD and maxing out the bitrate. I had to do this because my Toshiba standalone won't play SVCD's, but it will play VCD's and XVCD's.

  10. My Toshiba DVD player will play xvcd but whin i made one it had a bunch of colours. The bitrate was 2500 when i tried it could that be the cause of the colours? One more thing i am a beginner so i was wondering what the vcd header trick is. Thanks for the help.

  11. @jordan456789,

you need to go back to the DVD player compatibility list and look at the max xVCD bitrate your toshiba supports. if you encode your xVCD above that max bitrate, you will have problems...(audio outta sync, big blocks, etc...)

you should also read user comments on your toshiba....ppl give experiences on the same toshiba that you have...it's very helpful.

VCD header trick: SVCDs and VCDs have different headers. the trick is to replace a SVCD header with a VCD header on a SVCD. this might trick the dvd player into thinking your SVCD is a VCD and play it. this has worked on some players.

look here for info on VCD header trick: http://www.vcdeasy.org/modules.php?name=_Guides&id=VcdTrick
