Ok peeps I'm looking to do some very specific things inside a DVD and am hoping someone out there might point me in the right direction. I heard somewhere that the language for DVD's is XML is this correct?
I want my main menu to hold for 15 seconds and then go into a video loop untill an input is recieved, then go back to the main menu. I also want to add web access like they do in movie dvd's to access certain web sites and have a special menu if played in the computer.
I am an animation student and am putting together my reel on dvd, I have authored a couple of dvd's now and svcd's and have some experience programing, but I am still weak in C++ and havn't even touched HTML. I also wanted to say thanks to everyone on the site that posts and thanks especially to the creators cuz I wouldn't have gotten as far as fast without it!@ KUDOS everyone!

The "language" for DVD's is not XML and is not part of the DVD specification.
You may be getting it confused with the internal processing of a DVD authoring tool. There are some tools that use XML as a way to share schema data. Of course, all of this is proprietary to a specific manufacturer. XML does make sense here because different applications can share data and interface, without having to know about specific details of the application they are interfacing with. -
Ok that makes more sense.. XML is used inside a C++ shell on the backside of a software package.. So is there a way to get the menu to wait then go to a video loop untill imput is recieved? Is DVD specification what I need to look into to do this? Ideally it (the menu) would wait 15 - 20 seconds fade to black then go into the loop...I say loop but the video, being only about a min and a half would play fade to black then begin again untill an input is recieved.... Also any help on having the dvd access a web site when put into a computer would be great... Thanks in advance

First of all, I'm not an expert! Second I don't know what you're using to author DVD.
I use DVD-Lab and I think i can create part of what you are trying to do. Here's what I would try:
* Create main menu with video options.
* Create second menu and make it motion menu.
* Set first menue to time out to second menu (motion menu) @ 15 sec.
* Set motion menu to loop and link to main menu
I don't know if it will work? But I don't see why it won't either.
Hope that helps.Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........ -
No I think you are on the right track... rather then looping just the video I would have the video play through and return to the main menu which would wait for 15 seconds and then goto the fade link the fade to the video ect... way to think ouside the box(hahaha I never get tired of saying that) hey I help you, then you help me and we're not even gettin paid for...Now if only I can figure how to get the websites to connect through the DVD I'll be there! thanks!
