    Hey people -

I'm trying to find out if anyone knows the specifications on captures done by NeoDVD Standard, capturing direct to mpeg-2 in "best" mode.

    specifically -

-- does anyone know the default audio format?
-- does anyone know the bitrate?
-- any tips or anecdotes about demuxing and reencoding the audio to a smaller file size?

Basically, I want to use the "best" setting to do some quick and dirty capturing direct from VHS to mpeg-2. I don't want to spend any serious time (i.e. more than 15-20 minutes per movie) reencoding anything- if I wanted to do that, I'd capture as an avi and reencode. What I'm really hoping is that I can squeeze some extra space out by reencoding a bloated audio stream into something leaner.

But the file sizes I'm getting are about 80 minutes to a full disc - I really need about 90.

Any suggestions? If I drop the capture to "better" I'll end up with a significantly worse capture, and a ton of space I won't need.

    thanks for any help.

I'm pretty sure it's MP2 256k 48hz. Squeezing the audio down to a lower bitrate won't shrink the file much. I never use it to burn with, but I hear Neo converts it to PCM at author (unless you have PLUS version). Another reason to not use it to author.

It's the NEO MPEG2 video files that are bloated like a pig. No pun intended.

And then let's not forget that there are are many authoring application that reject the NEO-captured MPEG files. The only one I find to work is DVD Workshop.
I'm not online anymore. Ask BALDRICK, LORDSMURF or SATSTORM for help. PM's are ignored.

DVD Lab doesn't seem to have any problem with them...

...hmmm, I was hoping it was the audio that was bloated, not the video...

drag. okay, I guess I edit mercilessly to get it down to size... either that or DVD2one...

thanks for the input. anyone else with ideas?
